Honda’s new 2013 Accord Coupe Concept was shown off publicly for the first time this week at the North American International Auto Show. The 9th generation Accord has been re-designed with a more powerful and athletic look, and introduces several new technologies both in the cabin and under the hood. Scheduled for release this fall, the 2013 Accord Coupe Concept offers a variety of new safety features, powertrain technologies, fuel efficiency improvements and other enhancements that will appeal to long-time Honda lovers, and may also turn some new heads with its muscular re-design.
Driver safety and major visibility improvements are introduced in the 2013 Accord Coupe Concept such as Honda’s innovative LaneWatch blind spot display, Lane Departure Warning and Forward Collision Warning systems. The warning systems use cameras in the windshield to alert drivers when they are drifting out of their lane, or when a potential collision may happen. LaneWatch uses a camera in the passenger side mirror to allow the driver to see a larger area of roadway on that side. Standard equipment including Honda’s Expanded View Driver’s Mirror and a reverse/back-up camera add up to big improvements in driver visibility and safety.
Honda will be offering three new powertrain choices in the 2013 Accord Coupe Concept. This will be the U.S. debut of their Earth Dreams 16 valve DOHC i-VTEC four cylinder engine with direct injection. This engine will be available in a new 6-speed manual transmission or Honda’s Continuously Variable Transmission which uses a unique technology to aid in responsiveness, acceleration and efficiency. This engine marks improvements to the previous model in torque, horsepower and efficiency.
All new Accords will come equipped with Honda’s ECO Assist technology which helps to optimize fuel efficiency and can even teach drivers techniques to improve their driving efficiency. With these new features in place, the 2013 Accord Coupe Concept is expected to lead its class in fuel efficiency.
The 2013 Accord Coupe Concept is also expected to earn top marks in the Federal New Car Assessment Program and also the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety tests.
The new 2013 Accord Coupe Concept will also see the addition of more standard equipment and newer tech features such as audio text messaging, a Pandora radio interface, hands-free Bluetooth and a color information display for the driver.
The Honda Accord has been a long time best-selling car model, and the enhancements and next-generation styling of the new 2013 model lines will continue to please Honda fans, as well as create a new generation of loyal Honda owners.
