2013 Honda Crosstour Overview

With only minimal changes from last year, Honda offered a peek at its 2013 Crosstour Concept model at the New York Auto Show this week.  The Crosstour, a deviation from the Accord, didn’t sell as well as anticipated last year, so they’ve revamped the exterior to give it a sportier, more aggressive stance.  By shifting further away from the fastback/hatchback passenger design and toward a sturdier crossover/SUV styling, Honda may be looking to attract more of the active consumer market to boost its sales.

The primary differences in exterior styling lie in the sporty new front end, redesigned grill, contrasting moldings, door garnishes, sill plates and a rear fender finish that imparts an impression of greater stability.  The Concept unveiled with stout 19 inch wheels, though the production Crosstour is slated to return to 18 inch wheels.

Honda building vehicles in “Green Factories”

The obvious product that you purchase from a car company is the car. The less obvious purchase that you make when you buy a car is an investment in the infrastructure of the car company in question. You support their business practices, good or bad. One great thing about Honda is that when you support their business practices, you’re supporting one of the greenest car manufacturers in existence.

Honda’s practice of green building extends not only to their direct manufacturing of cars, but also to their entire supply chain. Green building ensures that you as a consumer not only get a great finished product from Honda, but that you don’t need to sacrifice being environmentally conscious to get it. Honda is committed to green building not because they’re being forced through mandatory regulations, but because it’s the responsible decision for future generations. It’s better to be ahead of the curve.

Green Building Factories

Honda’s “Green Factory” initiative means that Honda’s factories are constantly working to have as minimal of an environmental impact as possible. Their green factories strive to reduce their emissions, improve their energy efficiency, as well as have as small of a landfill contribution as possible. In fact, since 2011, 10 of the 14 Honda plants in North America have sent zero waste to landfills. In 2009 they even developed a new way to paint their vehicles to lower fossil fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 25%. Honda has had multiple factories and distribution centers certified by Energy Star.
